Because it means that the photography schools in Barcelona are really good and you have a lot of options. So… where to study photography? Here is the list of 4 of them that I think you should take into account.
It is one of the oldest photography schools in Barcelona. They have more than 35 years in teaching. Grisart teaches photography, video, photo-editing, post-production, and history of art. The professors are well-known photographers with a long working experience and own personal style. Grisart has great facilities like studio, Lab, TV studio and much more.
Also, they organized a big photo festival – Festival Panoramic which is a great opportunity to meet other photographers, network and show your work. They have basic photo courses, study pro, documentary photography, retouch, and more. For sure you will find something for you.
Probably one of the most well-known schools in Barcelona. They are specialized not only in photography, but also in fashion and graphic design. For the future photographers, they offer fashion photography, art direction in advertising, visual narrative and documentary photography and lighting and retouch. Those who want to do a master, they offer also the video for photographers. It is a great school to make contacts with photographers who have experience worldwide.
3. IEFC
Probably the oldest photography school in Barcelona. As they say about themselves- “The mission of the IEFC is to promote, stimulate and promote the study, research and dissemination of photography.” They have the biggest variety of courses.
You can study degree in photography which is 3 years, specialization courses like documentary photography ( sports, weddings, travel, photojournalism, event), advertising and corporate photography, photo edition, retouch, analog photography, studio photography, and much much more. Everybody can find something interesting. But to study there, probably you will have to understand Spanish or Catalan as most of the classes are taught in those languages.
4. ELISAVA
Very well-known and international school. 50 years of experience in teaching design, engineering, communication, and marketing. However this is not only a photography school, they have a Master in Photography and Design, which is, as they explain, “postgraduate program based on the photographic practice that treats photography as an open discipline through which the student is encouraged to create extensive photographic projects of high complexity, and to explore the more contemporary approaches to photography.” Maybe it is not the cheapest master, but it is in English and it is practice oriented.
There are a lot of photography schools in Barcelona but many of them require Spanish or Catalan and many people who come from abroad can only study in English. But if you know Spanish, I can also recommend you El Observatorio, or Graduate Diploma in Photojournalism in UAB. I’ve hope you found this article interesting and it will help you to choose the best option for You.
